Getting a Head Start - seeds 2018 - Inventory

A local hardware store had a sale.  Seed packets, normally 99 cents, were 10 cents a packet.  I admit to being a bit of a snob and look forward to trying new heirloom varieties of most of my favorite veggies; tomato, pepper, and beans and peas. I also admit to being a sucker for ten cent seed packets.  I picked up a few items that I am less picky about, a few veggies and a few more flowers.  There are rarely enough flowers.

Flowers:

Cosmos - Seashells mix

Celosia - orange peach

Salmon Sunset (30)

Cleome - baby girl pink

Harvest Garlic - Rule of Five

This is my first year harvesting my own garlic, planted last fall.  I've spend far too much time google-hunting, trying to figure out when to harvest.  Tired of getting interpretive hints (when it's half dry, or a month or two after the scape forms, for instance), I figured it out on my own. Rule of Five.  I have five different types of garlic planted, both hard and soft-neck.  I have tested and photographed my experiment and as a result, feel very confident my Rule of Five will work for most types of typical garlic bulbs found in U.S. grocery stores.

Tomatoes I Grow 2017

I grow at least Seventeen varieties of tomato this season and make notes as I go.  To see how each type is currently growing, see the most current Garden Update.  I will update and rate each tomato at the end of the season.

I prefer rareseeds.com to any other link provided.  This list is informational, however, listed in alphabetical order, and not promotional.  I get no kickbacks, the companies linked have no idea I am linking them.

Chipmunks are Chipunks

Lessons learned.  No pictures of the rodents, as I do not want to make these bastards famous.

Chipmunks have personality.  They hear you come outside for your morning meander around the grounds and run in front of you, chirping, or whatever you call that exclamation they emit when they think you are trespassing in their territory.  Sometimes, Master Chipmunk will stop, stand up, look at you and they run away to a place he/she can't be found.  Chirping, of course.  Pretty sure I know how to say "ha ha fuck you" in chipmunkese.

Well, THAT happened. Dead bunny.

A couple of days ago, I meander around to the south side of the house, towards the hose to start my morning watering and come upon a very flat bunny and its organs splayed in the yard.  Shrieked, yes I did, and walked away from that mess with a quickness.  Off to call the man of the house to take care of it.

SO HAPPY RHOD is Coming Back! - Sneak Peak at S2

Image Blog

I've been watching reality TV since MTV's Real World, catching most of the first few seasons.  Project Runway was the first reality TV series that became must watch reality TV, clearing my calendar to settle in for each episode.  I still have a seething hatred for Gretchen and you can't tell me that N. Garcia and M. Kors names haven't been tarnished by that choice to fight for her win on her season.  Puck and The Peanut Butter (barf).  Santino the dickhead.   Tammy "it wasn't not funny".  I can't wait for the next season of Top Chef either.
